Our charity and all its volunteers are very saddened to hear of the loss of a brave soldier from 4 YORKS whilst on tour in Helmand Province as part of Operation HERRICK.
Private Matthew Thornton was serving alongside 1 YORKS when he was killed by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) during part of a patrol in Babaji on Wednesday 9th November 2011
As we are so close to Remembrance Day, this grave incident is a somber reminder to the risks and sacrifice our valiant members of the Armed Forces demonstrate for our security and that of those around the world.
Our close association with 1 YORKS as Patron of our charity is an honour that we are very proud and privileged to have. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with the Regiment and those close to the unnamed solider.
